MOSCOW, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Russian military discovered and destroyed a facility in the Syrian province of Idlib used by terrorists to assemble and store drones to attack Russian military bases, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.

"The site was destroyed by a strike with the high precision artillery Krasnopol," a Defense Ministry statement said.

Last week, Russian military foiled an attack against the Russian naval base of Tartus and air base of Hmeymim in Syria, destroying seven combat drones and bringing to ground another six.

The Krasnopol projectile was also used to destroy a group of militants in the same province. A mortar attack on the Hmeymim air base on Dec. 31 had killed two Russian soldiers.
