Former Myanmar PM's residence opened as commemorative museum

YANGON, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's former late Prime Minister U Nu's residence in Yangon was opened as a commemorative museum on Friday.

U Nu was the first prime minister of Myanmar after it regained independence in 1948.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein inaugurated the museum where daily necessities used by U Nu and historical photos are displayed.

"We intends to introduce our dad's achievements and his contributions to the country from this exhibition at his residence," Daw Than Than Nu, daughter of the former prime minister, told Xinhua.

U Nu had been the prime minister for three times until he passed away in 1995.

U Nu, along with late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai and late Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, initiated the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in 1953.
