YANGON, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will host an international moot court competition in Yangon for the first time late this month, aimed at helping law students in the country acquire more trial experience through the moot court contest, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.

Organized by the Asian Law Students' Association (ALSA), the international moot court competition will run a four-day simulated hearing of an international investment dispute settlement from Aug. 24 to 27.

President of ALSA Myanmar Ko Kaung Myat Arkar said the purpose of holding the event is to enable Myanmar law students to get into the habit of taking part in a simulated court or arbitration proceedings at a moot court.

Law students in other countries and districts are participating in it extensively, while Myanmar holds local mock trials only, he said, calling for more such competitions in the country so that Myanmar law students can keep abreast with international students.

A total of 20 teams from Asian countries and regions including three from Myanmar will take part in the competition in three steps which are general round, semi-final round and final round.

During the competition, arbitrators, lawyers and legal experts from home and abroad will act as moot arbitrators.
