MOSCOW, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A series of events showcasing the rich culture of China's vast west, especially that of places along the ancient Sild Road, kicked off at the Moscow Musical Theater on Friday.

Dancers and singers from Gansu Province and Tibet Autonomous Region performed their traditional dances typically seen on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where part of the ancient Silk Road ran centuries ago.

Photos reflecting the natural landscape, culture and economic development, and oil paintings by Russian artists about Dunhuang, a major stop on the ancient Silk Road known for the nearby Mogao Caves, are also on display.

A film exhibition will also be held on Sunday. Two documentaries will be screened showing the daily life of residents on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The events, part of the efforts to promote the Silk Road culture, are organized by the Chinese State Council Information Office with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Moscow. Some related events will be held in Russia's cultural capital of St. Petersburg starting from Monday.
