TEHRAN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed in the recent unrest in Doroud city in the western Lorestan Province of Iran, semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Monday.

Some of the governmental buildings, banks and religious places have been damaged or set on fire in the violence over the past days, said Mashallah Nemati, the governor of Doroud.

At least six people were also injured in the unrest, he said, adding that police did not shoot at people, but some who were in plain clothes shot at the police forces and fired at police stations.

Some of the police forces were injured by the rioters, Nemati said.

Over the past days, anti-government protests erupted in some Iranian major cities. In a number of cases, they turned into violence and clash between the protesters and police.

According to local media, tens of protestors were arrested across the country over the past days.

The Iranian government has blocked the popular messaging app, Telegram, used by protestors to coordinate and organize. Also, the speed of internet has been reduced to a considerable extent and the websites with the servers outside of the country are almost inaccessible.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for sympathizing the Iranian anti-government protesters.

"This guy (Trump) who is trying today to sympathize with our people has forgotten that a few months ago he called the Iranian nation terrorist," Rouhani said.

"This guy who is against the Iranian nation from head to toe has no right to sympathize with them," he said.

Most of Iranian officials have blamed foreign intelligence agencies for flaring up of the peaceful protest gathering of the people.
