LIMA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Peru's prosecutor overseeing the Odebrecht corruption case, Jorge Ramirez, set the cost of reparations to be demanded from the Brazilian construction company at over 3.468 billion soles (around 1.1 billion U.S. dollars).

Speaking to the "Cuarto Poder" TV program on Sunday night, he said the amount was linked to three infrastructure projects which involved Odebrecht corruption.

These include the construction of the South Peruvian Pipeline, the Southern Interoceanic highway and the Chacas highway.

The first two were decisions taken by the governments of former presidents Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006) and Ollanta Humala (2011-2016), respectively, and the third with the governor of Ancash, Cesar Alvarez.

The prosecutor has established that Odebrecht must pay around 540 million U.S. dollars in reparations for the Interoceanic highway, 480 million U.S. dollars for the South Peruvian Pipeline and 80 million U.S. dollars for the Chacas highway.

These amounts, according to Ramirez, are the value of the total public damages caused by Odebrecht's bribery.

"We are waiting for Odebrecht to change their attitude. It is not possible for them to offer 66 million U.S. dollars in civil reparations," said Ramirez in the interview, referring to Odebrecht's initial offer.

In December 2016, Odebrecht executives confessed to the U.S. Department of Justice it had paid bribes of around 800 million U.S. dollars to officials in 11 countries. In the case of Peru, these were worth 29 million U.S. dollars between 2005 and 2014.
