YANGON, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's two-House union parliament will resume its eighth session on May 14, according to an announcement of the parliament late on Sunday.

Those sessions of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and the House of Nationalities (Upper House) will resume separately on the same date.

The eighth session of the parliament will be the first convened after U Win Myint, former speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House), was elected as the new president of the country who assumed office on March 30.

During the period of the seventh session which lasted from January 15 to March 30, the parliament approved a national strategic law for April to September, which is the transitional six-month period before a new fiscal year 2018-2019 is to start from October after the last fiscal year 2017-2018 ended on March 31.

A National Budget Law and Myanmar Investment By-law were also passed with the 2018 Union Tax Bill being under review by the president.

During the session, the parliament also approved seven bills concerning the various parliamentary committees and collaboration with international organizations.

Following the end of the seventh session, President U Win Myint also announced the re-organization of the 27-member government cabinet, the 11-member National Defense and Security Council and the 21-member Financial Commission. All of the bodies are chaired by the president himself.

The current parliament was formed through the general election in November 2015 and is dominated by the election-winning National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
