TEHRAN, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami on Friday blasted the U.S. for withdrawing from the Iranian nuclear deal, saying the U.S. move is detrimental to global peace and stability.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony marking 'National Day of Resistance and Stability," Hatami said the U.S. should fulfill its commitments under the deal to help establish peace and security in the world, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

"We as a nation fulfilled all our commitments and expect the others to do the same. But the Americans started violating the letter and spirit of the JCPOA and others should compensate it," Hatami was quoted as saying.

The JCPOA refers to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed in 2015 between Iran and six major powers including the Britain, France, Russia, China, the U.S. and Germany.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on May 8 to pull out of the treaty, citing that it is "a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made."

Iran has said that it will stay in the deal as long as the other five powers remain committed to it despite the U.S. pullout.

Hatami said that the U.S. violation of the deal only makes Washington disgraceful and contemptible before the whole world.

"We will continue walking the road to resistance and the future is certainly ours, as we are a noble nation and will remain so under every condition," Hatami added.
