NAKURU, Kenya, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Singida United FC from Tanzania toppled Kenyan giants AFC Leopards 4-2 on penalties in the 2018 SportPesa Super Cup quarterfinal here on Tuesday.

Singida, the losing Tanzania domestic Cup finalists, thus completed the semifinal lineup of the eight-team regional invitational tournament after their evenly contested encounter with Leopards ended in a barren stalemate in regulation time.

They will play in the second semifinal of the tournament against title holders and Kenyan champions, Gor Mahia FC on Thursday.

Kakamega Homeboyz FC (Kenya) will face Tanzanian league winners Simba FC in the first semifinal.

Leopards midfielder, Whyvonne Isuza will rue his missed penalty in the second half that would have given Leopards the lead and had to see their team followed Yanga FC (Tanzania), Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (Zanzibar) and Kariobangi Sharks FC (Kenya) in crashing out of the competition.

Both teams began the contest well, enjoying equal share of possession but Singida went close in the fifth minute when a Mundia Lubinda header was gathered by Ezekiel Owade in the Leopards goal having arrived to the box unmarked.

Leopards' Brian Marita, who was looking lively in the opening quarter, then sent in a cross to the back post in the ninth minute but Simon Mburu's header went wide.

Singida picked up the pace and went close again two minutes later when Kenny Ally unleashed a ferocious shot that was blocked by defender Salim Abdallah.

Marvin Omondi skipped past two players in the 22nd but his low cross into the area went unconnected after nobody got to it for Leopards.

The resultant corner ended up at Marita's feet on the edge of the box but he sent his right-footed shot just over the bar.
