NAIROBI, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan women's volleyball team head coach Japheth Munala said on Thursday that Kenya is planning to have friendly matches against China, Brazil and Japan before the year's World Championships.

Kenya and Cameroon will represent the continent in the World Championships, which will be held in Japan from Sept. 29 to Oct. 20.

Speaking to Xinhua in Nairobi on Thursday, Munala called on the government to facilitate and fund their training program, which includes playing at least three international friendlies in Asia on their way to Japan.

"We have made a request to play against China and Japan as the warm-ups, but if we get an opponent from America or Brazil then we will be okay," said Munala.

Munala says the national team is in transition and hopes to get better as he shakes off the veterans, bringing in new breed of young and ambitious players.

"We have new players in the camp who need to impress and fight for their selection in the final squad that will travel to Japan," Munala said.

"With 28 players, I have looked at all departments. The final 14 will complete the transition we have started. I know the new players will jell well with their experienced colleagues because we need to play as a unit," said Munala.

Kenya has won the Africa Nations Cup nine times. It will be their fifth show at the Word Championships.

Kenya is pooled in Group D together with Serbia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Kazakhstan. Enditem
