VIENNA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi here on Friday put forward a five-point proposal concerning the Iranian nuclear issue.

Wang made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting of the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Russia, Britain, Iran and China, the first of its kind since U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Wang said participants at the meeting have pledged to continue to abide by and implement the JCPOA, oppose unilateral sanctions that violate international laws, and effectively safeguard the international non-proliferation regime.

Over the Iran nuclear issue, China upholds a five-point approach, Wang said.

-- The international rules should be observed. Wang said it is a common sense in international laws to abide by international agreements, adding that major countries should play a leading role in this regard and domestic political changes should not and cannot be used as an excuse to evade international obligations.

-- The JCPOA should be implemented earnestly. JCPOA is an international agreement endorsed by the United Nations Security Council and all parties are obliged to implement it, Wang said.

He also said the JCPOA has been proven to be effective in easing the nuclear crisis and safeguarding the international non-proliferation regime over the past three years, stressing that there is no excuse not to support or carry out the deal.

-- Stability in the Middle East should be maintained. Wang said the region is at a critical stage, and the failure to keep and implement the Iran deal would have serious negative impact on regional situation.

-- Unilateral sanctions should be abandoned. Wang said China has always been opposing any unilateral sanctions and it has also been proven that pressure and sanctions alone are counter-productive.

-- Dialogues and consultations should be highlighted. Acknowledging that it can not be expected that every problem will be solved under the JCPOA, Wang said that China supports all parties in setting up an inclusive and transparent dialogue platform under the premise of implementing the deal so as to discuss and resolve issues of common concern and to safeguard regional peace and stability.
