LISBON, July 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 34 Ryanair flights into and out of Portugal were cancelled on Wednesday due to the two-day strike by cabin crew.

According to the data provided by Portugal's Civil Aviation Cabin Crew Trade Union (SNPVAC), at least 34 out of the 48 scheduled flights were cancelled in Portugal.

In Lisbon, the ten scheduled flights were cancelled while 14 out of the 22 flights scheduled were cancelled in Porto, northern Portugal, and ten out of 16 were cancelled in Faro, on the southern coast of the country.

This is in addition to around 50 Portuguese flights cancelled in advance by the airline.

Ryanair typically operates around 180 flights daily into and out of Portugal but just 132 flights were scheduled for Wednesday.

Ryanair cabin crew were striking in Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Italy, for 24 hours in the case of the latter, but 48 hours for the other three. Further disruption can therefore be expected Thursday.

When the strike was announced last week, Ryanair cancelled hundreds of flights and informed thousands of passengers.

"We apologize to the 50,000 Belgium, Spain and Portugal customers whose flights were cancelled last Wednesday," the airline twitted on Wednesday.

"There has been no further disruption in these countries and all scheduled flights are operating as normal today," it added.

Cabin crews are demanding that employment contracts be based on the laws of their respective countries and not those of Ireland.

The dispute revolves around discrepancies in unpaid leave rights and demands to be paid a fair wage.
