JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- China hammered Vietnam in straight sets at the opening match for the Asiad women's volleyball here on Sunday.

The match was a rather lopsided one, with the Chinese Olympic champions taking dominance for most of the time, ending the three sets 25-11, 25-15 and 25-13, respectively.

Star spiker Zhu Ting got 15 points to lead the game, including 14 spikes. Veteran player Liu Xiaotong also scored in double digits. Vietnam also has a player who scored in double figures.

"Today our main mission was to adjust to the venue. We tried to give everyone of the team a chance to play," said China coach Lang Ping after the match.

Despite the landslide victory, Lang said that the Chinese team should have adjusted faster in the second and third sets, during which the Vietnamese caused some threats through good serving.

Zhu Ting, also captain of the team, said that she believes the girls would do better and better in later matches, as this was only the first match and the team was still ajusting themselves.

She added that everyone of the team will give their best performance and try to win each match by following instructions of the coach.

The Chinese women's national volleyball team has already won gold at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.

When asked about her feeling playing Asian Games for the first time as a world champion, Zhu said that she will still do her best. "We need to start from the scratch," she said.

Later on Sunday, four other women's volleyball matches will be held, with the Philippines playing against Thailand, Chinese Taipei against Kazakhstan, South Korea against India, and Japan versus Indonesia.
