JAKARTA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Zhao Shuai won the silver medal of the men's 63kg taekwondo event at the 2018 Asian Games here on Wednesday.

Zhao, who won a gold in Rio Olympics two years ago, was beaten by Mirhashem Hosseini of Iran 17-11 in the final.

The bronze medal was shared by Ho Chiahsin of Chinese Taipei and Cho Gangmin of South Korea as there are no third-place bouts.

Zhao became the first male Chinese athlete to win a gold medal in taekwondo at the World Championships when he was victorious in the bantamweight category at the 2017 tournament in Muju, South Korea.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that emphasizes skill, strength and speed of kick. It was first introduced in the Asian Games in 1986, but missed the 1990 Beijing Asiad.

The 18th Asiad will stage 465 events out of 40 sports, among which 330 events from 32 sports will feature in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 2018 Asian Games, attracting more than 10,000 athletes, will run through Sept. 2.
