SUVA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 25,000 people living in Nakasi, a suburb outside the Fijian capital city of Suva, will get state-of-the-art medical treatment after the opening of a new 6.7 million Fijian dollars (about 3.1 million U.S. dollars) Health Center on Wednesday by the Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The Nakasi Health Center has a Family Planning Clinic, Maternal Child Health Clinic, a Dental Unit and a Pharmacy and will have two doctors and eight nurses. It has an Integrated Management Child Unit where children under five will be seen, three consultation rooms, a treatment room and also a room dedicated for foot care.

The new Nakasi Health Center also has a Laboratory, an X Ray Unit and an Emergency Room and a 100 seat General Outpatient Department waiting area.

Bainimarama said the facility will raise the bar for medical care in Fiji. He said such new developments in the fast growing suburb from schools to roads to health centers and even an expanded airport the Suva-Nausori corridor was quickly proving to be an epicenter for Fiji's rapid transformation into a dynamic and modern economy.

The Fijian government's huge capital injection into Fiji's medical sector was all across the island nation, he said, adding that they were opening new and upgraded health facilities to offer more services to more Fijians closer to home.

He added that the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva was getting an upgrade to its maternity unit for a cost of 11 million Fijian dollars (about 5.1 million U.S. dollars). The ward currently under construction, will bring women's health in Fiji up to international standards, expanding the number of beds to 200.
