LONDON, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) unveiled its nominations for this year's film awards Wednesday, with The Favourite dominating the nominations.

The Favourite, a love-triangle comedy set in the 18th century British court of Queen Anne and featuring three women as top stars, headed the field with 12 nominations, including best director for Yorgos Lanthimos, and both Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone who battle each other in the best supporting actress category.

Olivia Colman, star of The Favourite, who won the Golden Globe award in the same category for the same performance earlier this week, was nominated in the lead actress category.

Other highly-nominated films include the rock band Queen's frontman biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, astronaut Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, Roma and musical A Star Is Born.

Bohemian Rhapsody had won best film award at the Golden Globes, as well as best actor for its lead Rami Malek, and is nominated again at the BAFTAs in both categories

This year's awards are the first where a diversity standards rule has been applied, but in only two categories "best debut" and "best British film".

These means films must meet several production-stage quotas that show they have increased the representation of under-represented groups in areas including on-screen representation and industry access and opportunities.

The BAFTA awards ceremony takes place on Feb. 10 at a televised event in London's Royal Albert Hall.

The BAFTA awards take place two weeks before Hollywood's annual Oscar ceremony, and are seen as an indication of which films have gained momentum on the award circuit.
