LONDON, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- British Construction growth eased to its 10 months low in January, according to a survey published Monday by The IHS Markit/CIPS, a London-based global information provider.

Figures showed that its Construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) dropped to 50.6 in January from 52.8 in December, hitting the 10-month weakest.

Duncan Brock, Group Director at the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply said "The sector suffered a sharp drop in output growth in January, and the softest rise in purchasing volumes since September 2017, as Brexit continues to hamper progress and dampen client confidence."

However, construction firms remained positive about the outlook in 2019, with around 41 percent of the survey seeing a rise in output while only 16 percent forecasting a fall.

Tim Moore, Economics Associate Director at IHS Markit, said that "Positive sentiment towards the outlook for civil engineering work remains a key factor helping to support business sentiment across the construction sector".
