NEW YORK, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The young generation of Chinese designers have become increasingly popular in domestic and international markets, with more exposure in various stages, said an owner of a Chinese platform of fashion brands.

In addition to Chinese design brands' growing popularity in domestic fashion industry, "I also have confidence in Chinese designs to expand (their business) in the U.S. markets," Wang Ning, founder of PLAY LOUNGE, told Xinhua in a recent interview.

PLAY LOUNGE, a leading Chinese fashion destination with over 500 designer labels, has sponsored China Chic Pop-up shopping event on April 26-30 in New York City, which gathers nearly 20 Chinese brands and designer labels.

Wang found that Chinese consumers become more open to novel designs from domestic designers in recent years, in comparison to the young brands from Europe and other Asian countries.

"To our surprise, Chinese consumers particularly favored domestic brands," Wang said. "At that time, Chinese designers competed with their global counterparts, including those from Japan, South Korea and Europe, on our platform."

Behind such a rise of Chinese fashion were marked changes in both designers and consumers in the country, according to the female entrepreneur.

"The young generation of Chinese designers, especially those born in 1985 and beyond, most of them came back after overseas studies. Their brands are able to meet the needs of young people and are reasonably priced," she said.

Another crucial change lies in the fact that except the youth, middle-class females have become more inclusive of a variety of stylish brands and definitions of fashion.

The finding of their user profile last year showed that around 65-percent of the consumers of Chinese designer brands are between the age of 22 and 35, mostly females, according to Wang.

"We labeled them as independent women. They have their own understandings in fashion," Wang said. "They would like to choose chic designs and fast fashion brands, aside from buying luxury brands."

"What they (Chinese designers) excel in is creative designing. Yet we (dubbed as a "fashion agent") offer them supports in public relations, marketing, as well as management of clients and suppliers," she said.

The female entrepreneur also expressed confidence in Chinese brands' competitive edges in the international markets, and willingness to propel Chinese designers onto bigger stages.

"The young generation of Chinese designers has been well-educated in aesthetics... and China has excellent supply chains," Wang said.

"I've always wanted to introduce more Chinese brands to international stages and get more overseas consumers (to) better understand Chinese designs," she said.
