SANAA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels shot down a drone from the Saudi-led coalition over the capital Sanaa late Tuesday, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported Wednesday.

A U.S.-made MQ1 drone was brought down at midnight by the Houthi air defenses in Dayan area of Bani Matar suburb in the southwest of Sanaa, al-Masirah TV said.

According to the rebels, a warplane from the Saudi-led coalition attacked the wreckage of the downed drone two hours later.

There had been no comments yet from the Saudi-led coalition over the Houthi rebels' claim.

Drone war has escalated over the past months between Saudi Arabia, which has been leading an Arab coalition since March 2015 to support the Yemeni exiled government, and the Iran-allied Houthi rebels who seized much of Yemen's north in late 2014.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia said two oil-pumping stations of its main pipeline were hit by explosive-laden drones, which caused a fire at the No. 8 station with limited damage.

The 1,200-km pipeline carries crude from Saudi Arabia's main eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port city of Yanbu in the west.

Houthis claimed responsibility for the drone attacks on the Saudi oil facilities, but the Saudi government has yet to comment on the claim.
