ISTANBUL, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The United States is conducting a war against itself by initiating conflicts with its partners, said Dogu Perincek, chairman of Turkey's Patriotic Party in a recent interview with Xinhua.

"The U.S. has been conducting a war against itself and shooting itself in the foot," Perincek said. "In the end, it will be the U.S. that will be a war-damaged country."

He spoke of the U.S. sanctions against Iran, Russia and Venezuela as well as threats made against Turkey over Ankara's insistence on buying Russian-made S-400 missile defense system, saying that Washington's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal approved by "world public opinion" has undermined its credibility.

Meanwhile, in the name of protecting domestic industries, the United States has placed steep tariffs on billions of U.S. dollars' worth of products from its major partners, including the EU, Canada, China and Japan, raising trade tensions around the world and shaking the foundation of the global trading system.

"The U.S. is isolating itself from the world," so the winner of the tariff wars is "already evident," he said.

The United States seemed to be a champion of free trade and free market, "but now we see that it has taken actions against free market," the party head said.

The United States resorts to tariff wars with its partners because it has an economy in decline and is losing influence "in the old world" due to withdrawals and defeats suffered in some parts of the world, said Perincek.

"We will see more clearly that these actions are the results of its desperation," he said.

In addition, Washington has banned the U.S. suppliers from selling products to the Chinese telecom company Huawei and tightened visas for some Chinese students and scholars.

The United States "has no chance" of disrupting the infrastructure built in China over the years and disabling the country's well-trained human resources, said Perincek.

"Behind the growth of China there lies the great revolution it achieved in 1949... and its internal dynamics," he said. "The rise of China cannot be stopped by trade wars."
